We are delighted to present this very rare fully restored Regency sofa from around 1810 in brown leather, featuring hand-carved mahogany Hermes statues. A unique piece, this original Regency sofa is a true work of art. The sculptures on the armrests depict busts of Hermes, used at the front of ships. This sofa has been completely restored: the frame has been stripped down, all joints have been glued and tightened, the exposed wood has been stripped and then French polished by a third-generation cabinetmaker. It has then been rebuilt using the original horsehair upholstery and spiral springs throughout the structure. The leather upholstery is made from authentic vintage hide, stored for 40 years and beautifully aged. Each panel has been perfectly cut and hand-nailed with vintage solid brass nails. Dimensions: Height 82 cm, Width 219.5 cm, Depth 90 cm, Seat Height 54 cm (measurements taken at the widest point). This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Wimbledon. Condition: please refer to the detailed photos that are part of the description. Note that period and original items like leather seating always have a natural patina including cracks, creases, and wear. It is recommended to regularly apply wax to preserve the moisture of the leather and to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent drying and discolouration.
