Restored leather Chesterfield sofa, walnut legs.

We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare original Chesterfield club sofa dating from around 1900, in cigar brown leather, in restored condition, with feather-filled cushions and hand-turned walnut ball feet made to order. This sofa is a very rare find, one of the few early 20th-century Chesterfield club sofas with period leather in complete condition. It is the traditional fully buttoned model, the high-end version, featuring a beautiful aged patina, stripped and then hand-recoloured in this stunning cigar brown shade. It has overfilled feather cushions, hand-turned walnut feet fitted with special 12 mm axles for easy disassembly during transport, and a new jute base cover. The frame is made of solid beech and oak, the seat features a hand-stitched eight-coil spring, is padded and supported by jute, and the cushions are comfortable, filled with goose feathers. Dimensions taken at the widest point: height 77.5 cm, width 172 cm, depth 95 cm, seat height 50 cm. This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Pulborough. Please refer to the detailed photos for the condition of the sofa. Note that the antique leather always shows a natural patina with creases and wear; annual polishing is recommended. The hand-dyed leather should not be exposed to sunlight for long periods to avoid drying and discolouration.
