Charlotte Perriand, grande dame of French modernism
Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) co-signed the most iconic armchairs of the 20th century, and no one knew it. A French designer and architect, she joined Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret's studio in 1927, where she co-designed the famous LC2, LC3 and LC4. Seven decades later, she designed mountain refuges, peasant solid wood tables, furniture for Japan, bookshelves for Tunisia. An immense body of work long hidden behind that of her partners, today rediscovered as one of the most important of modern design.
The free-form table, the straw chair, the Tunisia bookcase: Charlotte Perriand-signed pieces are now absolute grails of French vintage furniture. Reissued by Cassina or in original edition, Perriand furniture reaches auction prices that confirm her rank.
