Double-sided desk with twin drawers featuring antique Dutch marquetry.

We are delighted to offer for sale this double-sided Dutch desk with twin pedestals, crafted in museum-quality marquetry, dating from around 1880, of large size, and fully restored. A truly magnificent piece, exquisitely made, a genuine work of art from every angle, that would attract the attention of all in a room. Each panel is fully marqueted, including the interior panels of the legs, allowing for the pedestals to be swapped if desired, offering a configuration with a cupboard and a set of drawers on each side. The top is made of beautifully thick leather, hand-dyed and aged in a deep cigar brown. The condition is excellent; the desk has been thoroughly cleaned, completely restored, with small losses of marquetry replaced with wood inlay rather than filler, then coloured, and the piece has been French polished. The leather has been washed, dyed six times, aged, and also French polished. Signs of natural wear related to age remain, without detracting from the exquisite quality. Dimensions: height 78 cm, width 157 cm, depth 126 cm. Height under the desk 61 cm. Measurements are taken at the widest points. Vintage items such as this naturally have a patina due to time and use, particularly the leather which shows creases and wear. It is advisable to wax annually to prevent drying out and to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
