Model 641 (designed in 1955), in perfect condition, covered with a pearl gray alcantara fabric, edition steiner the arp (atelier de recherche plastique) founded in 1954 by pierre guariche, michel mortier and joseph-andré motte is the meeting of three friends and young designers. The three designers, when the group was founded, wanted to shake up the codes of classicism by designing new forms in order to create more accessible furniture. Joseph-andré motte and michel mortier both come from a background in applied arts, pierre guariche is a graduate of decorative arts. The three met while working in designer marcel gascoin's agency. In 1954, they participated in the salon des arts ménagers and realized that they had the common desire to found an association, in particular with the aim of creating a series of furniture desired by the publisher charles minvielle. The three designers receive numerous prizes at the end of the competition organized by the technical center of wood. The principle was to design practical furniture that easily found its place in small areas. The plastic research workshop ended in 1957.
