These two model 'FD 137' easy chairs, also known as 'Japan chairs', were designed by Finn Juhl in 1957 and produced by France and Son in Denmark. Regarded as one of the best examples of Danish mid-century modernism, these rare easy chairs showcase Juhl's attention to sculptural forms, clean lines, and comfort. The solid teak frames are paired with brass details and new high-quality wool upholstery. The seats have generous padding with new foam, while the backrests retain the original horsehair padding. The design, with its visible structure and minimalist lines, is inspired by traditional Japanese architecture. The chosen fabric colours are 'Marble', a creamy off-white, and 'Sienna', a deep reddish-brown reminiscent of terracotta. The frames have been refinished, though some marks and stains remain, especially on the backrest and legs, reflecting their history. The original France & Son brass label is present on both chairs. The new wool upholstery is in pristine condition. These chairs are significant in Danish design history and a highlight of Finn Juhl's legacy.
