We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent original Sheraton chest of drawers, made of flamed mahogany, dated 1859, with a bowed front and lion head handles. These drawers have a breathtaking wood patina, it is splendid and appears golden under the right light. It is most likely Honduras mahogany, used in some of the finest furniture, including luxury pianos. The piece is in the Sheraton style and features beautiful shell inlays at the top and various inlaid lines throughout. The handles are stunning lion heads, similar to the imposing Regency-style door knockers, which are highly collectible in their own right. Regarding the condition, there are age-related patina marks here and there, nothing that detracts from its charm and character. We have carefully cleaned it, hand-waxed, and meticulously polished it from top to bottom. Dimensions: height: 112.5 cm; width: 121.5 cm; depth: 60 cm. All measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Pulborough. Please refer to the very detailed photos that are an integral part of the condition description. Note that vintage and original pieces, like leather, always exhibit a natural patina with creases and wear; we recommend annual waxing to prevent moisture loss. Furthermore, hand-dyed leather is not advised for prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can dry out and discolour.
