Antique Folk Art Painted bridal chest 1853

Fairly large painted bridal chest from southern Germany. The chest has a very rustic appearance and shows plenty of character. The whole is primarily painted in a soft green colour and decorated with panels featuring the name and wedding date of the previous owner (1853). The paint is quite worn, which gives the whole a highly decorative look. The chest is in neat but used condition. There are occasional old woodworm traces, which have of course been checked and treated. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a gift to the couple at a wedding. Afterwards, this furniture was placed on the farm in a show room that was only rarely used for important visitors or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
