This antique painted wedding chest made of pine is a popular polychrome chest with a flat lid and decorated front, on ball feet. It originates from Central Europe, from the mid-19th century, in the tradition of painted wedding chests. The wedding chest held the bride's trousseau and served as a prestigious piece of furniture in the rural home. Its painted decoration gave it a festive and symbolic value. The body is made of solid pine, with a flat lid, iron handles, and turned ball feet. The structure retains its original paint across the entire surface, with wear consistent with its age. The front and lid are painted with floral vases and floral borders on a coloured background, in a popular polychrome of reds, greens, and ochres. The vase of flowers symbolizes the prosperity and fertility of the new household; inside the lid appears the monogram IHS, of devotional character. Due to its size and decoration, it can be used as a bed-end chest, an entrance piece, or a decorative storage item. It fits into rustic, country, and eclectic interiors, where it adds colour and narrative. Details. Dimensions: Length 161 cm – Depth 73.5 cm – Height 67 cm. Style: Painted popular.
