A sculptural and highly recognizable lounge chair designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in the Netherlands during the 1960s. This model, known as the F444, reflects Paulin’s innovative approach to seating, combining a minimalist steel structure with a flexible, body-adapting leather sling. The chair features a tensioned black leather seat, elegantly suspended within a chromed steel frame. Its distinctive folded form, emphasized by a pronounced central seam, creates a dynamic balance between structure and softness. The low, relaxed seating position enhances its lounge character, while the clean lines give it a strong architectural presence. This particular example was acquired from the original owner, who purchased the chair in the Netherlands shortly after its release. It retains the original Artifort manufacturer’s label and remains a fully authentic vintage piece from the early production period. The F444 is no longer in production, making original examples increasingly sought after on the secondary market. The leather shows a beautiful, even patina with light wear consistent with age and use, adding to the character of the piece. The chrome-plated frame remains in very good condition with only minor signs of use. A refined and collectible example of mid-century Dutch design, equally suited for modern interiors or curated design collections.
