We are delighted to offer for sale a very rare continental parquetry and inlaid marquetry chest of drawers dating from around 1780. This is a highly aesthetic and decorative chest of drawers, heavily inlaid on all visible sides. The craftsmanship is absolutely sublime with very few losses, which attests to the skill involved. The drawers are made of walnut and fruitwood, resulting in a mix of colours. The drawers include 2 original keys; the locks are temperamental but functional, which is remarkable considering their nearly 240 years of age. They have been lightly restored with a wax clean and polish. A complete restoration can be carried out, including the replacement of small missing wood parts and a French polished finish to prepare them for display, but this has not been done in order to preserve the original patina. Dimensions: Height 88 cm, Width 106 cm, Depth 60 cm (measurements taken at the widest point). Please refer to the detailed photos for more information on the condition. Note that vintage and original items may have a natural patina in the form of cracks, creases, and wear. Regular waxing is recommended to prevent moisture loss, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided for hand-dyed leathers.
