Victorian Desk for Women with Inlay and Leather

Victorian rosewood Davenport desk dating from the mid to late 19th century. This compact and elegant desk was designed to be both practical and display-worthy. The slanted top retains its original red leather writing surface, showing signs of age and wear consistent with use, which adds to its period charm. The desk features a raised gallery back with a small shelf and beautifully executed inlay decoration in the central panel. The hinged writing slope opens to reveal additional storage compartments, including an interior fitted with small divisions for stationery and writing instruments. Beneath the slope, a frieze drawer offers extra storage space. The desk stands on slender tapered square legs with a plain stretcher, all resting on original brass casters for ease of movement. The hardwood is richly veined, and the quality of craftsmanship is evident in the decorative inlays and overall proportions. The condition of the table is good for its age, with normal wear on the leather top, some surface marks on the wood, and a lovely patina of use that enhances its antique character.
