Manjoosh Commercial Furniture in Exotic Wood, India – Early 20th Century

Superb Manjoosh cart from the early 20th century made of solid wood by Indian craftsmen. This unique piece is decorated with numerous painted tiles, each protected by a window. These tiles depict animals or deities in bright colors. The central part has a flap at the top that lifts up to access a storage space with secret caches accessible on the sides. Below, two small doors open onto a very large storage space the size of the piece of furniture. This cart mounted on four casters is notable for its numerous carved decorations adding to its artisanal and traditional character. On the front, the upper part is decorated with wooden bells and relief sculptures. The tiles are surrounded by engraved friezes and painting on the frames surrounding each tile.
