This antique Japanese low tansu dates from the late Taishō period and the early Shōwa period, a time when Japanese domestic furniture was characterised by its functionality, balanced proportions, and everyday use. It is made from paulownia wood, combined with Japanese cedar for certain structural parts, materials known for their lightness, stability, and natural resistance to moisture. The piece features a simple and effective composition: two upper compartments with sliding doors and a lower section consisting of three drawers, intended for everyday storage.
