This antique pine wood sideboard features two doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a central reserved top. It originates from northern China, dating from the late Qing dynasty, where pine was crafted using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Northern Chinese domestic furniture maintained stable typologies throughout the Qing dynasty. The unpainted and unlaquered medium pine sideboard variant belongs to the more subdued vernacular register, where the natural grain of the wood and iron fittings compose the entire visual expression. The body is constructed from solid pine. The front consists of two identical doors with a profiled perimeter frame and a central reserved top. The sides are solid. The lower rail is simple, and the legs extend at right angles to the ground. The handles are circular forged iron rings. The joinery is traditional Chinese mortise and tenon, without screws. The patina retains a warm natural tone with the pine grain visible. The surface of the top shows the natural pattern and characteristic knots of the pine. The most exposed areas have acquired a darker tone due to wear. The fittings show stable oxidation. Details. Dimensions: Length 144 cm – Depth 40 cm – Height 90 cm. Style: Qing Dynasty.
