Antique low cabinet with sliding doors – Taishō / Shōwa period (c. 1920-1970) Dimensions: Length: 87 cm, Depth: 40 cm, Height: 49 cm. Date of manufacture: Circa 1920-1970. Condition: Good. Wear is consistent with age and use. This Japanese low cabinet with sliding doors was created during the transition between the Taishō and early Shōwa periods, in the early 20th century. Designed for everyday domestic storage, it combines functionality, visual lightness, and balanced aesthetics. The cabinet features two upper sliding doors, allowing for flexible access to the interior space, as well as three lower drawers providing more precise storage for personal items or textiles. It is primarily made of paulownia, a wood valued for its lightness and stability, complemented by Japanese cedar in the structural parts. The original metal fittings, understated and functional, highlight the practical nature of the piece. The surface reveals a warm and natural patina, marked by time in a way that is consistent with its age, enhancing its authenticity. A versatile and well-proportioned tansu, ideal as a low cabinet, small sideboard, or focal piece in a contemporary, Japanese, or wabi-sabi interior.
