We are delighted to offer for sale this captain's or director's chair in cigar brown leather, hand-dyed, museum quality, fully restored, by Cornelius V Smith, in walnut and satinwood. This chair is a beautiful original Victorian example from around 1885, featuring a walnut structure adorned with satinwood and boxwood inlays, with period leather. The seat platform is belted and has spiral springs, and the chair swivels, making it one of the first swivel chair models ever made, an innovative concept for the Victorian era. The restoration has been comprehensive: the leather has been cleaned, hand-dyed six times, aged, sealed with wax, and polished. The wood has been thoroughly cleaned and lightly French polished. The base is marked four times on each foot with the initials CVS for Cornelius V Smith. Dimensions: Height: 92 cm, Width: 55 cm, Depth: 60 cm, Seat Height: 47 cm. The item is in good condition with a refurbished finish, showing signs of wear consistent with age and use. Please note that measurements are taken at the widest point; feel free to request specific or additional measurements. Also, note that the antique leather naturally shows signs of patina such as cracks, creases, and wear, and it is advisable to regularly wax it and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight.
