This superb set of three bowls perfectly illustrates the creative and poetic revival of studio ceramics in the 1950s and 1960s. Strongly infused with the Mediterranean spirit and the formal freedom initiated by the great masters of Vallauris (such as Picasso or Cocteau), these pieces charm with their dreamlike aesthetics and deeply expressive designs. It is a true work of art, where terracotta becomes the canvas for a personal mythology. These three plates reveal remarkable incised decoration (sgraffito technique) that showcases dark lines beneath vibrant colours. Each piece tells a story: a fascinating stylised horse surrounded by organic motifs on a turquoise blue background, a chimeric creature that is half-woman, half-bird (evoking a mermaid or an ancient harpy) on the same blue glaze, and a mysterious crowned female bust, highlighted by warm ochre and beige tones. The contrast between the shine of the glaze and the nervousness of the black line engraved in the material brings undeniable graphic strength to the whole. These pieces bear a signature on the reverse, attesting to their studio origin. Offered in excellent condition, this cohesive set is a true decorative delight. These bowls can be displayed in a collection on a sideboard, used as precious catchalls, or even hung on the wall to create a poetic composition in a contemporary or vintage interior.
