We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite English writing desk made of pollard oak, dating from around 1800, with claw and ball carved feet, hand-decorated. It is probably the most beautiful desk I have ever seen; the grain of the wood and the patina are sublime, nothing compares to pollard oak when it is this old and well-carved. The piece dates from around 1800, although the wood may be even older, possibly sourced from reclaimed panels from the 18th century. We have cleaned, waxed, and polished the desk from top to bottom, with age-related patina marks present here and there. Dimensions: Height: 103.5 cm, Width: 71.5 cm, Depth: 49.5 cm (extending to 77 cm), Knee height: 74 cm. Please note that all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our warehouses in Pulborough. Please note that vintage and original period items such as leather seating always have a natural patina in the form of creases and wear. We recommend annual waxing to prevent moisture loss. Additionally, hand-dyed leather is not recommended to be exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, as it dries out and discolours.
