Directoire-style antique secretary with a secret compartment.

Secretary desk belonging to my family. It is in the Directoire style, made of solid wood with marquetry work featuring geometric patterns in diamonds and stars. It rests on four slender, tapered legs. The drop front opens to reveal a stepped arrangement consisting of six small drawers, a central niche with its own drawer, and an authentic integrated sliding secret compartment in the lower top. The lower facade consists of two drawers with original brass handles and lock entries. The piece is sound and stable. The writing surface needs restoration: the wood is exposed and stained. The outer drop front shows signs of wear.
