A monumental jardiniere from the late 19th century representing the classicist Empire style, characteristic of neoclassical Poland of that era. Made of thick silver-plated brass, it features mainly matte, warm silver with subtle gilded accents, especially on the raised reliefs and central medallion. The solid body is set on three decorative legs with a shell motif. The high relief is adorned with centaur motifs, ornamental plant tendrils, and an oval medallion, while the geometric handles with leaves highlight the precision of craftsmanship. The interior is fitted with the original glass insert, perfectly matched to the metal frame. The whole piece has retained its natural, even patina and minor abrasions typical of authentic period items. The condition is very good – only slight signs of use are visible, with no signs of repairs or modern interventions. The form of the jardiniere evokes the spirit of the late 19th century – a time when neoclassicism was a conscious aesthetic choice, and everyday objects became miniature works of art. The matte metal surface and gilded reliefs tell of salons where candlelight reflected in the centaur ornaments, and the richness of form testified to the owner's status and taste. The ornamentation of this jardiniere carries a fascination with antiquity and a longing for the order of classical proportions, being a kind of manifesto of harmony and opulence at the end of the 19th century. The jardiniere can be paired with a classic console or chest of drawers from the Biedermeier or Empire period, where its monumentality will highlight the qualities of a historical interior. It also works well as a solitaire on a contemporary marble countertop, contrasting with minimalist accessories. It can be combined with heavier textiles such as velvet or velour, or paired with geometric wall graphics, breaking tradition and giving the arrangement an individual, collector's character.
