We offer a rare Georgian writing library secretary from around 1790 by Gillows of Lancaster and London. This drawer cabinet with a secretary desk is rare. The drawer bottoms and dovetail joints are authentic, as is the folding mechanism in front of the drawers and the leather writing slope, consistent with original models. The stamped PATENT lock under the crown for King George III is authentic and was used between 1784-1797. The wood is Cuban wood or Havana mahogany, typical of the period. The desk has been carefully restored, lightly waxed and polished, with new leather inserts as the originals were damaged. This piece is in superb condition for over 220 years. Dimensions: Height 98 cm, Width 125 cm, Depth 64 cm. Made by Gillows, an English company founded around 1730, known for its high-quality furniture. The leather may show a natural patina due to age. We recommend regular waxing and avoiding prolonged exposure to sunlight for the hand-dyed leather.
