Basket sugar bowl, Art Nouveau, silver-plated brass, Poland, early 20th century

A basket sugar bowl from the early 20th century, produced by the Warsaw company Norblin, represents the Art Nouveau trend in Polish metalwork. Made of silver-plated brass, it attracts attention with its cool, silvery shade and delicately matte surface. The characteristic wavy edges of the vessel and the softly twisted handle, forming an arched grip, refer to the organic lines typical of the Art Nouveau style. The smooth surface of the vessel stands out with subtle differences in texture and is devoid of additional decorations or engravings. The handle is attached with small spherical ends, giving the whole a harmonious, balanced profile. The interior of the vessel is covered with a warm patina, and the whole has remained in very good condition: there are small scratches and discolorations typical of silver-plated brass from this period, without signs of more serious damage. The form and details of this sugar bowl evoke the atmosphere of early modernism, when inspirations from nature permeated everyday objects.
