A round fruit basket, produced by the Kaiser manufactory in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century, is an example of Art Nouveau metal craftsmanship. Made entirely of metal—most likely tin or silver-plated alloy—it features a cool, silvery-grey shade with a matte finish and natural patina, which in some places takes on an uneven form. The slightly shallow, round bowl is surrounded by a geometric pattern of vertical ribs and decorations of small, raised dots, typical of early 20th-century art. The double, movable handle formed from two wires is finished with an impressive twist in the middle, serving as both reinforcement and decoration. The basket shows subtle signs of use—slight surface dulling, delicate scratches, and tarnish—but no major damage or deformation. It is preserved in very good, original condition, without signs of aggressive restoration. The form of this basket carries the voice of an era in which natural motifs intertwined with refined, geometric decorations. The matte surface and restrained linearity of the rim recall Art Nouveau's pursuit of harmonious fusion of function and decoration—the metal here seems to tell of a time when a utilitarian object was also a small sculpture. The twisted handle suggests not only practicality but also a playful lightness, as if the basket were ready to carry the fleeting spirit of modernist salons on its lines. The patina evokes memories of past decades, creating a delicate dialogue between the past and the present. Brought into a contemporary interior, the basket can be used as a central accent on a sideboard or table—both in collector's arrangements and in a classically furnished living room. It works perfectly alone or in a set with glassware from the era, creating a dialogue of forms and textures. It can be combined with ceramics glazed in Art Nouveau patterns, a heavier oak tabletop, or minimalist metal and glass decor. Thanks to its matte surface and subtle, geometric ornament, the basket will fit both atmospheric, historicizing spaces and modern interiors, where it will subtly bring the spirit of the early 20th century into everyday context.
