Basket sugar bowl Secession, silver-plated brass, early 20th century

A Secessionist basket sugar bowl from the 1930s, made in the Norblin workshop in Warsaw, combines a massive, transparent crystal insert with a body made of brass covered with a silver layer. The exterior maintains a cool, subdued silver tone with delicate, warmer gold accents visible in the decorative frieze in the middle section. The wide arched handle, also silver-plated like the body, is symmetrically attached on both sides of the basket. The crystal insert features a sculpted edge in the form of gentle waves, and the outer basket is decorated with a repetitive, neoclassical leaf and pearl motif. The surface is matte to lightly satin, with visible natural signs of age and patina that do not disturb the integrity of the form. The construction is precise and well-fitted. Condition is good — only minor signs of use and patina, no visible repairs, the item has retained its authentic, collectible character. This sugar bowl carries the spirit of the eclectic 1930s — a time when classic ornamentation met pragmatic simplicity. Cool silver and clear crystal calm the energy of metropolitan gatherings, and the subtle leaf motif and glass carving reflect the attention to detail characteristic of interwar Warsaw craftsmanship.
