Date of manufacture: Circa 1868-1926. Condition: Good. Wear corresponds to age and use. Japanese tansu storage chest made between the late Meiji period and the early Taishō period, circa 1868–1926. This high-quality domestic piece was intended for daily use, providing organised storage for clothing, textiles, or personal effects. The furniture features a balanced composition of drawers combined with a side compartment with a door, an uncommon solution that adds extra functionality. The fronts are made of Japanese zelkova, a highly sought-after wood for its hardness and spectacular grain, clearly visible throughout. The structure is complemented by paulownia inside the drawers, adding lightness, and Japanese cedar in the structural parts. The original metal fittings, with circular plates and decorative reinforcements, highlight the authenticity and character of the piece. A compact yet very expressive chest, ideal as an accent piece, low dresser, or central piece in a contemporary, Japanese, or wabi-sabi interior.
