This antique Japanese chest of drawers dates from the late Meiji period or early Taishō period, a pivotal moment in Japan's history when traditional furniture gradually adapted to a more functional domestic life, without relinquishing its artisanal heritage. It is primarily made of paulownia wood, known for its lightness and stability, complemented by Japanese cedar for certain structural parts.
