This lithograph “Aspects of Nature - Summer Evening” is signed by Henri Rivière and has a red stamp in the bottom right corner. We note tears and creases in the margin, as well as small stains. The colours are perfect; once framed, these defects will be less visible. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved on to soft-ground etching, specifically aquatint, in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886, for shadow theatre at the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances with innovative coloured backdrops. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolour (he painted around a thousand watercolours).
