Antique engraving painting XVIIIth Franz Edmund Weirotter 1763

Antique print eighteenth Franz Edmund Weirotter 1763. Subject: Port Harbour scene. Franz Edmund Weirotter (1733 – 1771) lost his parents at the age of seven and was raised by an aunt in Innsbruck until the age of fourteen. During this time, Weirotter learned to paint and copy paintings, and his first contact with painting was with Franz Michael Hueber of Innsbruck. From 1751 to 1755, his stay at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is documented. He then worked for art dealers and various clients. During his first stay in Paris (1759-1763), he met Johann Georg Wille. The friendly relationship with Wille and the training in the circle of artists that had formed around him led to a turning point in Weirotter's work. Wille had people draw in the great outdoors in order to train the eye to landscape impressions and make them receptive to the beauties of nature. He then used these drawings for engravings. Unlike the Vedutists, Weirotter renounces documentary fidelity in favor of the integration of architecture into the landscape. A scholarship from the Royal Academy of France enabled Weirotter to spend a year in Rome (1763-1764). Wille gave him letters of recommendation to Johann Joachim Winckelmann and Anton Raphael Mengs, which gave him access to the main German art circles. Contacts with French artists were made through the French Academy in Rome. During his stay in Italy, Weirotter also visited the surroundings of Rome and Tivoli as well as Livorno, Viterbo and Florence. Frame dimensions: 29.2 X 25 cm. Dimensions engraving: 18.2 X 13 cm.
