Enrique Atalaya (1851-1914), Spanish painter. Oil on cardboard. Forest landscape. Frame in blackened wood and stucco, under glass. Signed at the bottom right and dated 1903. Dimensions with frame: 23x19.5cm. Dimensions without frame: 13x9.5cm. Very good condition, accidents to the frame. Another work for sale by this artist, reduced shipping costs for combined purchases. *Enrique ATALAYA (1851-1913) is a Spanish painter, born in Murcia and died in Paris. He spent part of his career in France. Early on, he was drawn to genre scenes, which became his specialty, as well as landscapes. He settled in Madrid in 1869, where he continued his studies at the School of Fine Arts. He frequently visited the Prado Museum during his studies and practiced copying classical works. Very passionate about technique, he reportedly presented a new painting method without oil or varnish to the Academy in 1877. It was in 1880 that he moved to Paris. He participated in the World Expositions of 1889 and 1900.
