A naturalistic oil painting depicting a family of deer in the forest. Painted in oil on canvas by Ludwig Sellmayr (Munich 1834 - 1901) at the end of the 19th century. Framed in an old, richly decorated and gilded frame, the painting shows some cracks in places. Signed at the bottom left. A splendid wall decoration that enhances your rural decor. The Biedermeier period runs parallel to the Romantic period, and both are characterised by similar traits: intimacy, closeness to nature, simplicity, and a need for harmony. The emphasis is on the simple, the conservative, and the tried-and-true. There is little experimentation and more observation and enjoyment. The artistic style is very realistic and shows a great similarity to photography. Idyllic domestic representations, beautiful landscapes, and impressive portraits are the most popular subjects for oil paintings until the end of the 19th century.
