LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) armchair, originally designed by Charles & Ray Eames and produced by Herman Miller / Evans Products Company in the United States between 1947 and 1950. Considered one of the most iconic chairs of 20th-century design, the LCW stems from the research conducted by Charles and Ray Eames on moulded plywood. Its revolutionary design combines comfort, visual lightness, and technical innovation through the use of moulded wood panels and rubber shock mounts that allow for some flexibility in the seat and backrest. This early example retains its original Evans Products Company label under the seat, confirming its manufacture during the most sought-after production period, before Herman Miller took over full production in the early 1950s. The chair is entirely original and has never been disassembled. It shows a beautiful patina acquired over the decades, with signs of use, scratches, marks, and colour variations consistent with its age. The original finish has simply been carefully cleaned without heavy restoration. The original rubber shock mounts are still present. They show some drying and a few age-related cracks, a common phenomenon on early Evans examples, but remain functional and allow for normal use of the chair. An authentic piece that is increasingly difficult to find in such original condition.
