Antique glazed earthenware soup tureen

Beautiful antique earthenware soup tureen featuring a remarkable flamed and marbled decoration in shades of reddish brown, deep brown, and ochre yellow. Of a rounded shape, it rests on a small annular foot and has two side handles. It retains its original domed lid, topped with a grip knob. The slightly crazed shiny glaze, the drips of slip, and the irregularities in the decoration testify to a handcrafted production and give it all the character of ancient earthenware. This piece of folk art can be cautiously dated to the late 18th or early 19th century, approximately between 1780 and 1820, pending a more precise attribution. Condition: good presentation condition considering its age, with patina, crazing, and signs of use. There is a hairline crack on one side, photographed. Dimensions: height 18 cm – diameter 16 cm.
