Antique marbled glazed earthenware soup tureen from the southwest, 18th century.

An old covered soup tureen made of glazed terracotta, probably from a regional craft in the South-West of France, dating from the late 18th century or the very early 19th century. The piece features a remarkable marbled or flamed decoration, achieved by mixing and applying coloured clays or slips in shades of yellow ochre, brown, orange, and deep red, then covered with a shiny transparent glaze. This work creates beautiful irregular swirls and a slightly iridescent effect, characteristic of old glazed earthenware. The soup tureen has a globular body, two small side handles, a conical lid with a wavy edge, and a button-shaped finial. The underside, left unglazed, reveals an orange-red paste and retains traces of artisanal shaping. The piece shows a lovely patina and natural wear consistent with its age. The lid has been damaged at the handle, which is now securely reattached. The repair remains discreet when the tureen is displayed. No major losses or cracks. Dimensions: Height: 22 cm.
