Beautiful antique earthenware soup tureen with a generous bulbous shape resting on a small ring foot and two side handles. The piece is interesting for its amber-brown glaze with honey, ochre, and deep brown hues, animated by drips and flamed effects characteristic of old popular productions. The surface features a very beautiful network of natural crackles that fully contribute to its patina. The shape and presence of the two side handles likely indicate that the piece was originally covered; the original lid is no longer present. French popular work, probably late 18th / 19th century. Dimensions: height 15 cm – diameter 25 cm. In very good general condition considering its age, with no chips or cracks. Today, this old utilitarian piece also serves as a very beautiful decorative object. Its generous size allows it to be repurposed as a large bowl or catch-all, or even in a bathroom to elegantly hold rolled towels and accessories.
