Stoneware teapot by Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot (Ratilly in Puisaye, Burgundy) from the 1960s/70s. It features a low, generously rounded body, a short and raised spout, a wide handle shaped in line with the form, and an almost flat lid. The proportions give this teapot a very distinctive presence. The brown stoneware is covered with a speckled cream-white glaze, shaded with brown and animated by small mineral punctuations. The glaze naturally thins on the edges and reliefs, revealing the clay around the lid, on the handle, and at the tip of the spout. Established at the Château de Ratilly since 1951, Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot are among the key figures in the revival of Puisaye stoneware in the 20th century. Stamped: the piece bears the small owl emblematic of Ratilly. In good vintage condition, with a few tiny chips on the edge of the spout, discreet (see photos). Handle to spout length 18 cm, widest diameter 15 cm, height 9 cm without lid and 11.5 cm with lid. Capacity approximately 1 litre. Organic line, mineral glaze: a Ratilly stoneware of astonishing modernity.
