This antique Chinese wooden console with a large moulded drawer, three sections of geometric interlacing, and traces of red lacquer, is a side table from northern China around 1900. It originates from northern China during the late Qing period, where local wood was crafted with geometric cut-outs inspired by architecture. The consoles with openwork aprons were pieces of a certain domestic rank in northern China under the Qing Dynasty. The openwork design of the apron served a decorative function while visually lightening the structure. The top is of considerable length with a peripheral moulding. Beneath the top, there is a single moulded drawer with a central ring. Below, three sections feature geometric interlacing. The straight legs show traces of red lacquer at the drawer level. The wood has developed a warm patina with golden and ochre tones. The geometric interlacing retains a greater darkness in their inner planes, accentuating the decorative relief. This console is suitable for Japandi, wabi-sabi, or minimalist interiors. Its 122 cm length makes it ideal for wide hallways, entrances, or behind a sofa. Details.
