This antique Chinese console with drawers made of solid wood, featuring two ring pull drawers and bottle neck-shaped feet, is a domestic accent piece from northern China around 1900. It originates from northern China during the late Qing period, where local wood was traditionally crafted using mortise and tenon joinery. Drawer consoles were common pieces in Chinese domestic spaces during the Qing period, used as writing tables, light buffets, or entryway furniture. The detail of the feet ending in a bottle neck is characteristic of northern Chinese carpentry. The top is made of assembled planks with a discreet peripheral moulding. The two drawers slide on wooden guides and have brass pull rings. The straight legs end in a rounded bulge typical of the region. The wood has a warm patina of natural tone, with a more pronounced darkening on the top and drawer fronts. The wear is consistent and in line with the age of the piece. This console is suitable for Japandi, wabi-sabi, or minimalist interiors. It functions as an entryway piece, light buffet, or occasional desk. Details.
