Hello. I am offering an old still life in perfect condition signed by Charles GENSOLLEN, a painter from the 19th-century Provençal school worth discovering. It is a rare floral composition with an intimate and muted atmosphere in a classic aesthetic reminiscent of Flemish still lifes. With a sober staging and a sense of detail, as well as a warm colour palette with a slight patina of time, this work features Hibiscus syriacus, Lantana camara, Clitoria ternatea, Cassia floribunda, Heliotropium peruvianum, and Gloseinia ipeciosa. This floral composition is very rarely represented in the fine arts. At the centre of the composition, a richly coloured bouquet stands out against a dark brown-black background typical of still lifes inspired by Flemish masters. Very subtle colour harmonies can be seen with two ivory-toned Hibiscus, one in the foreground with a dark violet heart. This Hibiscus is surrounded by small yellow-orange flowers and reddish touches. The dark green foliage adds depth and significant volume to the overall piece. The soft, directed indoor light from right to left highlights the texture of the petals and the relief of the foliage, while the background on the left side remains deliberately dark, enhancing the contrast and depth. This splendid bouquet is placed on a discreet, almost erased horizontal surface, focusing attention on the shapes of the flowers. The work exudes a sense of calm, elegance, and melancholy, celebrating the fragile and ephemeral beauty of flowers and life. This artistic creation in chiaroscuro is the work of a talented painter. Frame dimensions: 44.5 cm X 35.5 cm. Artwork dimensions: 33 cm X 24 cm. Oil on canvas in perfect condition, recently cleaned by a professional.
