Ice bucket Caillard & Bayard Silver Plated Champagne Cooler

A beautiful and unusual French champagne cooler by Caillard & Bayard, Paris, with a generous rounded bowl on a raised pedestal foot. Made from base metal, the exterior is silver plated, while the inside of the bowl, pedestal and detachable sculptural bottle stand are finished in a warm gold-coloured coating. The piece displays lovely contrasting hues of silver and gold, giving it a particularly elegant and luxurious appearance. The original gilt-coloured wire support features six curved bottle rests, creating a striking design. A wonderful statement piece for entertaining, a sophisticated bar or a collection of French vintage barware. Founded in Paris in 1848 by Noël Caillard and Pierre Bayard, Caillard & Bayard became known for its decorative metalware and fine table accessories. The company was acquired by Christofle in 1934, although its name continued to appear on some pieces. This example has lovely vintage character, with light surface wear and some scratches, together with darker marks and areas of wear to the gold-coloured interior, as shown in the photographs. A distinctive and decorative collector’s piece.
