Bowl styled by Alvar Aalto, Finland, estimated to date from the 1980s-90s. It is part of Alvar Aalto's collection for Iittala, which is an iconic piece of Finnish design. Aalto was inspired by the thousands of lakes in his native Finland and their undulating shapes ("aalto" in Finnish). He received an award in 1937 at the Paris World's Fair. The manufacturing method follows the original technique; The vase is cast in a wooden mold with the opening. This gives the vase a softer shape due to its characteristic design. The iconic design is inspired by the Finnish landscape of his youth and is both functional and sculptural. The name Alvar Aalto is embossed on the base of the bowl. It measures 4.5 cm high, 18 x 16 cm long/wide, and weighs 470 grams. No chips, cracks, or other defects. Only natural signs of wear. Packed securely and shipped with insurance.
