Three-seater sofa, original model 118, designed in the late 1950s by Grete Jalk and manufactured by France & Søn in Denmark. Grete Jalk is one of the few women to have made her mark in post-war Danish furniture design, which was predominantly male. A trained cabinetmaker, she combined artisanal precision with a keen sense of form, becoming one of the major voices in mid-century Danish design. France & Søn was a pioneer in industrial teak manufacturing and helped to popularise Danish design worldwide. The original manufacturer's metal plaque is present. The sofa features an elegant solid teak frame with gently curved armrests typical of Jalk. The backrest with wide vertical slats gives the model a clear and rhythmic structure and offers a remarkable view from the back, allowing the sofa to be placed in the middle of a room. The foam cushions have been completely renewed, providing excellent comfort and are covered in high-quality light boucle fabric from the premium Danish manufacturer Kvadrat / Sahco. The straps under the cushions and the dust cover have also been replaced. Condition: professionally revised. New foam with Kvadrat / Sahco boucle covering, new straps and dust cover. The teak frame has been renovated and is in very good stable vintage condition, with only minimal signs of use due to age. A rare sofa from a great designer of Danish design. Dimensions: approximately 190 × 75 × 80 × 42 cm (width × depth × height × seat height).
