The Kolding sofa was designed by Danish designer Erik Wørts for IKEA in the 1960s. Its distinctive structure features a slender, slightly tapered oak frame that forms both the armrests and the legs. Its simple form and visible framework give the sofa the understated character typical of Scandinavian modernism. The sofa features three independent seat and backrest sections upholstered in green fabric. The combination of natural wood and colorful upholstery perfectly captures the aesthetic of 1960s Danish and Swedish design, where simple structures were often complemented by bold fabric colors. The sofa retains excellent proportions and is suitable for placement in the center of a room, as its design is aesthetically refined from every angle. The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The work was carried out by a talented carpenter with over 20 years of experience. The cushions were newly made to original specifications and upholstered in green fabric. Thanks to this restoration, the sofa looks magnificent and is ready to serve its new owner for years to come, withstanding the rigors of daily use. Erik Wørts (1916–1997) was a Danish designer and cabinetmaker who combined traditional craftsmanship with industrial production capabilities. He collaborated with IKEA starting in the early 1960s, designing items such as tables, chairs, sideboards, and sofas. His designs were distinguished by their simple construction, functionality, and emphasis on material quality. IKEA began collaborating with Wørts in the early 1960s, and his furniture from that period ranks among the most interesting examples of the company's early design work.
