English mahogany secretary chest – 19th century. Elegant flame mahogany secretary chest, opening with a drop front that conceals a fully fitted secretary, as well as four large drawers at the front. This piece of furniture elegantly combines the functions of a chest of drawers and a desk, characteristic of quality furniture from the 19th century. The drop front reveals a light maple interior featuring six small side drawers, a central drawer, several storage compartments, and a large writing surface covered in gilded leather with small brass fittings. The two lower drawers include compartments for inkwells, preserved with their original pots, reflecting its period use. The front is highlighted by an elegant light wood frame. The drawers are fitted with finely chiselled bronze knobs and original locks. The sides are made of mahogany, while the entire piece rests on a discreetly curved base. This secretary showcases excellent craftsmanship and a beautiful warm patina. It should be noted that a restoration is needed on one corner of the top, visible in the photographs, without affecting the solidity or the overall aesthetics of the piece. Style: English.
