I am selling an iconic mid-20th-century designer bookcase, the "CSS" (Comprehensive Storage System) model designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller and produced in France by Mobilier International. This is a family heirloom, complete with uprights, cabinets, and shelves, and still bearing its original "Mobilier International" labels inside the cabinets. The bookcase consists of vertical brushed aluminum uprights, fixed from floor to ceiling, and suspended modules (cabinets with drop-down doors, drawers, and shelves). The overall effect is one of elegant simplicity, typical of 1960s American design, both light and functional. The bookcase is complete; all original parts are present. It does, however, show signs of age: Yellowing of the white due to sun exposure, particularly on some of the cabinets, White veneer partially detached in places, Scratches and signs of wear on the visible surfaces, without any deformation or missing parts. A restoration (polishing, re-gluing the veneer, and re-tinting the white) would allow it to regain its original brilliance. Even in its current condition, it retains all the charm and value of a signed and perfectly authentic period design piece. Manufacturer: Herman Miller / Mobilier International. Designer: George Nelson. Model: CSS – Comprehensive Storage System. Composition: Aluminum uprights + white veneered wood modules. Markings: Original "Mobilier International" stickers inside the cabinets. Upright length: 250cm, can be mounted to the wall rather than the ceiling using the included corner brackets. Disassembled and ready for local pickup.
