Teak Norwegian Wall Unit Rival by Kjell Riise for Brødrene Jåtog, Set of 3

A teak Rival wall unit designed by Kjell Riise and produced in the 1960s by the Norwegian company Brødrene Jåtog. The original maker’s labels are still present in the cabinets and the drawer unit. This is a modular system built around vertical uprights with rows of holes, from which cabinets, shelves and drawers hang at any height. This means the layout can be freely adapted to your interior: rearrange the modules, raise or lower the shelves, and easily reconfigure the whole unit later on, for example after a move. The lower cabinets stand on slender turned legs, and the fronts feature shaped panels and carved, teardrop-shaped handles that give the unit a light, sculptural character. The set consists of three lower cabinets, a wall-hung bar cabinet, a drawer module and three top shelves with brass brackets. The two side cabinets have double doors and adjustable shelves inside, with plenty of room for tableware, books or documents. The central cabinet has a lockable drop-front that opens into a convenient writing surface, revealing compartments with shelves and two pull-out trays for papers and small items. The bar cabinet opens with two lockable doors to reveal a rack for nine bottles, a storage compartment and a fold-down shelf with a hard-wearing surface for mixing drinks. The two-drawer module has carved handles, dovetail joints and green felt-lined bottoms, ideal for cutlery, jewellery or office supplies. The unit thus combines a sideboard, bar, secretary and bookcase in one coherent piece of furniture. The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Every element of the set has been restored. Thanks to these treatments, the wall unit looks stunning and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear from everyday use.
