COD 11436. A magnificent 18th-century Italian painting. This artwork oil on canvas depicts a rare scene: the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph engaged in their daily tasks. Captured in a moment of silent concentration, the Madonna is busy sewing a white cloth. Her head is bowed, her gaze absorbed, her face idealized. The quality of the draperies, constructed with wide, flowing folds, is noteworthy: a red tunic, a blue cloak, and a splendid golden-yellow veil. Behind her stands Joseph, captured in the act of working with wood, depicted as a mature man and wrapped in a golden ochre cloak. In the upper part of the composition, immersed in a luminous cloud, appear angels and cherubs in glory, rendered with a suffused, vaporous painting style. A painting of remarkable pictorial quality and refined chromatic balance, it can be traced back to the mid-18th-century Central and Northern Italian school. A refined and cultured artwork, a meditation on work and the sacredness of everyday life, ideal for elegant, classic or modern settings. The painting has already been restored with relining, replacement of the stretcher, and repainting in small areas. Overall, it is in good condition.
