Glazed stoneware teapot – Hervé Rousseau, Atelier de Boisbelle, La Borne Curved stoneware teapot, hand-turned by the ceramist Hervé Rousseau in his workshop in Boisbelle (Henrichemont, Cher), near the famous pottery centre of La Borne. A swift and efficient turning process and good wild clay, unwashed, are the fundamental bases of his work, all fully fired in his large kiln. Round and generous body, ribbed neck, domed lid with a knob handle, loop handle, and tapered spout. The beige-cream glaze, applied in irregular drips, reveals the raw stoneware in places as well as blue-grey and mauve reflections — characteristic traces of ash deposits and flame variations typical of wood firing in a traditional kiln. Each piece, unique, bears the marks of flame passages and ash projections in the kiln, making each example irreplaceable. Artist: Hervé Rousseau, born in 1955, trained with Augusto Tozzola and then Jacky Coville in Biot. He settled in Boisbelle in 1981 with Josette Miquel, where he built his large Japanese down-draft kiln with three chambers (noborigama of 9 m³) in 1985-86. His pieces are included in the public collections of museums in France (Decorative Arts, Sèvres, Cluny...) and foreign museums (Germany, England, China). He is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics (AIC). Height 16.5 cm Width 24 cm Diameter approximately 15.5 cm Capacity 1 L ++ Note a chip on the neck, a pyrite during firing.
