Beautiful and very old photograph depicting a cart, its four horses, and its driver. Perhaps a harness that allowed the upper part of the stagecoaches (bodies) to be moved, which were then transferred onto a train (this system appeared in 1843 on the Paris-Orléans line). This photograph was part of a collection of about fifteen old photos representing various scenes, all featuring one or more horses, often related to "the state railways" or "the western railways." If you have any information, I would be interested. It was taken in motion and yet is quite clear, which must have been very complicated at the time! In my shop, I have another photo that depicts the same harness but at a standstill. It is likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s. It is glued onto a rigid cardboard. This photo is in fair condition, with no major stains, but it obviously shows its age of over a hundred years, presenting small marks and stains and probably some lightening compared to the original. The cardboard frame measures 26 cm by 20.8 cm and the photo 17 cm by 11.8 cm. It will be sent well protected against creases as well as moisture. Other photos are or will soon be available in my shop, feel free to contact me if you wish to order several so I can adjust the shipping costs.
