Very rare wig chest with a drawer in Louis XV style with marquetry.

Very rare wig chest of drawers with one drawer in Louis XV style, made of precious wood marquetry. It rests on four curved legs and features elegant ornamentation of finely chiselled gilt bronze: corner drops, drawer handles, keyhole entry, and feet. The front and sides are richly decorated with geometric marquetry in a frieze pattern, forming an elegant design of diamonds and radiating motifs. The top is adorned with a beautiful moulded pink breccia marble that perfectly follows the curved lines of the piece. French craftsmanship of high quality, from the Napoleonic III period in the Louis XV style. Very beautiful decorative presence. Presence of labels on the back and inside a drawer. Dimensions: Height: 85 cm. Width: 107 cm. Depth: approximately 48 cm. Likely made by a renowned cabinetmaker. Luxury furniture of great rarity due to its shape, inherited from the chest of drawers but only possessing a single row of drawers. This astonishing piece was intended to be placed along a wall. Known as a "console chest of drawers, " "console commode, " "wig chest, " or "wig cabinet, " it is said to be the piece in which wigs were stored. According to Nicole de Reyniès in the book "Domestic Furniture, Typological Vocabulary, " the "height required for the drawer corresponds to that needed for wigs.".
